One way to reduce clutter in your kitchen is to ensure you have a well-organized storage solution. With numerous items, from pots to pans, appliances, tableware, gadgets, and pantry goods, having the proper storage will ensure your space remains neat even in the most demanding meal preps.

While it may be hard to find ideal storage, especially if you’re working with limited space, several affordable kitchen storage solutions deal with this challenge while ensuring the kitchen remains chef-friendly.
From classic cabinets to pull-out solutions, kitchen storage solutions range from pocket-friendly options to more classy and unique ideas like standalone vintage cabinets.
Besides the space each solution offers, it’s also essential to consider the design choices and decor to ensure you can organize your space while maximizing style. We’ve compiled several affordable kitchen storage solutions that will fit seamlessly into your space.
Take a look!
1. Install Pull-Out Drawers

While deep cabinets are one of the go-to solutions for most kitchens, they often have setbacks like difficulty reaching items at the back. Pull-out drawers are a much easier and affordable kitchen storage solution as they allow access to all items.
Use them to store different items such as pots, pans, food, and spices. I always advise organizing your pull-out drawers based on the frequency of use of items, with frequently used items starting at the front.
2. Place a Shelf Above the Backsplash

Shelves can add a bit of artistic flair to your kitchen when organized well. Unlike cabinets, open shelving makes your kitchen feel open and airy while ensuring the essentials are easily accessible.
Install a shelf just above your backsplash to keep the kitchen tidy and contribute to the space’s aesthetic. One reason I prefer open shelves is that they’re easy to style, from painting them to match your kitchen’s style to organization techniques that help group items based on their tones or usage.
3. Organize with Drawer Dividers

Drawers are a great way to organize your cooking space. Many kitchens come with in-built drawers, but even organizing the said drawers can sometimes prove challenging due to the frequent movements that distort the arrangement of the items inside.
One good way to deal with this is using drawer dividers. These seemingly simplistic additions are an organization marvel as they allow each item in the drawer to be placed in a specific compartment, ensuring they’re in place despite frequent movements.
4. Install Glass Cabinets

Glass cabinets are one of the most stylish and affordable kitchen storage solutions. Mostly common in modern spaces, these cabinets allow you to keep away your items while ensuring the space is neat and well-styled.
In my view, glass cabinets are like a combination of cabinets and shelves—they tuck away your items while keeping them visible from the outside. If you have the budget, use tempered glass for a more structurally sound design.
5. Install a Hanging Rod

One easy affordable kitchen storage solution you can add to your cook space is a hanging rod. It allows you to store and easily access everyday-use items like pans, spoons, and even cleaning items.
Unlike other storage items that need an expert for installation, a hanging rod can simply be done as an afternoon DIY project. I installed a stainless steel one in my kitchen last summer, and other than adding a bit of shine, it has also made breakfasts much easier to prepare.
6. Go for Textured Baskets

As an organization expert, I’m always big on compartmentalizing. You’ll be surprised at how clutter-free a space can look when organized into specific compartments.
The good thing about this organization technique is that you can use various items as compartments, like textured baskets or even woven ones. Classify items so that you know where to place each item beforehand. To make it even more hassle-free, label each compartment.
7. Add Countertop Shelves

Even with already installed cabinets and drawers, your kitchen sometimes needs that extra bit of space, especially if you have a large family. Countertop shelves can be a good supplementary storage solution if you have a large or wide enough countertop.
Starting with the immediate countertop, you can add several shelf levels to store your cereals, spices, or even extra cookware.
8. Upcycle a Dresser

With increasing concerns for sustainability, reusing or repurposing your old items is always a good idea.
You give the item a new lease on life and add tons of character to your space, like this upcycled dresser that’s been converted into an affordable kitchen storage solution. Since it already has built-in drawers, it provides multiple storage spaces to help you organize.
9. Get Creative with Corner Storage

The corner is one of the most underutilized areas in the kitchen, partly because it’s challenging to install corner cabinetry and partly because corners can be hard to reach. Instead of wasting this space, you can creatively design it as extra storage.
Install cabinets and fix them with pull-out drawers or slide-out systems that’ll make it easy to organize even in areas that are hard to reach.
10. Opt for a Rolling Cart

Need a portable storage solution? Try a rolling cart! Other than serving as storage, you can use it to aid in your in-serving; talk of a five-star breakfast in bed!
Simply add some shelving or specialized storage solutions to store items when you aren’t pushing them around. It doesn’t have to be necessarily used for its initial function; you can permanently convert it to an extra shelf space—just make it immobile so it doesn’t skid off the surface.
11. Try Plastic Storage Baskets

If you don’t have the budget to install a whole new storage system, a few plastic storage baskets may do the trick. Just like cabinets and shelves, plastic baskets can be used as compartments to store various items.
Of course, you’ll need to find somewhere to place the basket, but this shouldn’t be a challenge as you can simply stack them together. Always make a point to label the basket for easy identification. I recently added a few baskets to complement my storage, and their bold colors really invigorated the space!
12. Mounted Metal Shelf with Hooks

If you’re working with a tiny space, combining two or more storage solutions may be necessary. Here, a combination of a metal shelf and hanging hooks design maximizes the small counter space.
If you have several items you want to fit, you can add several shelving spaces to ensure everything fits in.
13. Custom Wood Organizers

If installing drawer organizers seems complicated or you don’t have drawers to organize, try custom wood organizers. Unlike drawers and cabinets that must be fixed in a particular area, organizers are highly flexible and mobile; you can move them around as much as you like.
These types of organizers allow you to create custom storage solutions for your items. For example, you can leave significant components for cutlery or custom bottles and container holders for spices.
14. Go for Slide-Out Trays

Tray slide-outs are a modern, affordable kitchen storage solution. I particularly like them for how easy they make the retrieval process. These slide-outs make the organization process easier as you see the entire space and arrange items as you look.
I use mine for spice storage, and so far, based on my experience, I’d recommend them to any busy kitchen.
15. Add a Floating Shelf

Sometimes, you don’t need a whole new storage solution—you only need to supplement the existing space, and everything will be right in your kitchen. Floating shelves are a good option when you want just a bit of additional space to solve your organization’s needs.
I particularly prefer them in spaces where you are not looking to make permanent changes, for example, if you are renting the space.
16. Try a Pegboard

A pegboard adds an element of versatility to your storage space. This wall-mounted storage has spaces where you can hook on various items using pegs. Install several support items, such as small shelves, and use pegs to adjust them as you need.
You can also use the board to hang items such as pans, tablecloths, or even your serving spoons.
17. A Slide Out Wire Rack

If you have large enough cabinets but don’t want to waste time rummaging inside, a slide-out wire rack helps you easily organize items. The racks allow you to store different items on each tier.
18. Build a Microwave Cabinet

Minimalistic designs usually emphasize keeping the space as clutter-free as possible. One way to achieve this is installing a cabinet to keep your appliances neatly tucked away.
With such a system, your space will always look neat and spacious, not to mention easy to clean. An appliance cabinet can also increase the longevity of your appliances by keeping them away from dust.
19. Create a Coffee Station

Making your space fit the function makes everyday tasks simpler and more straightforward. Consider making coffee in the morning with a dedicated coffee station with all the ingredients and appliances you need to make this process a breeze.
I’ve designed mine to act as the central drinks station with various serving utensils and related beverage appliances—coffee is still the primary drink the space is dedicated to, though.
20. Storage Stand

Storage stands are an excellent affordable storage solution to supplement your space if you don’t have enough room or resources to install drawers or cabinets. Stands are easy and cheap, and you can always move them to the ideal space.
For example, suppose you’re using the stand to store groceries. In that case, you can move it to the chopping area to make different items easily accessible and the cooking process more efficient.
